The alpine area of Ladurns, known and loved mostly for its skiing, is equally attractive in the summer and has plenty to offer!
Our hiking tips:
- The Ladurns mountain pasture can be reached in two hours walk from the chair lift valley station via route no. 35/A, which turns into route no. 34 after c. 30 minutes of walking time… or you can get there in a quick 7 minutes by chair lift.
Walking time: c. 2 hours
- 3 Pastures Walk Rosskopf-Ladurns-Allriss – Dolomieu Way: Opened in the summer of 2003, this wonderful alpine nature trail offers unique insight into the geology, flora and fauna of the area.
One option is to climb up right from the Ladurns chair lift mountain station and go straight through the alpine village of Ladurns heading for Wastenegg. After a 20-minute climb the path heads for Toffringalm past small lakes, with the Telfer Weissen (2588 m) and Wetterspitze (2709 m) on one side and the Tribulaun massif (3096 m), Weisswandspitze (3016 m), Schneespitze (3128 m) and Feuersteine (3246 m) on the other – an unusually spectacular panorama. After about 1 ½ hours you will reach Toffringalm where the path slopes down gradually to the right side towards the so-called Pfaffenberg (“Parson’s Mountain”). From there, drop down towards Allriss Alm, where the Staudacher family has its small but very fine guest house. From here you can either go back to Ladurns Valley Station along the forest track and so-called "Sogeweg" trail, or follow the forest path down to St. Anton in Innerpflersch and take the bus back to Ladurns Valley Station. Another option is to go left from the Ladurns chair lift mountain station, dropping c. 200m and branching off right towards the Schleier massif and then on to Vallmingalm. From here you can reach either the Rosskopf cable car mountain station or climb up to Lotterscharte, before dropping back down to the Ladurns chair lift mountain station. A wonderful daytrip for the whole family and highly recommended.
Walking time: both options 2 ½ to 3 hours
- To the Edelweiss Hut (2000 m): Going left from the chair lift mountain station a farm track climbs gently over the so-called "Mahder" to the Edelweiss Hut, which can be seen for miles around. To the right is a mountain cross and behind this lies a small fishpond. If you walk this way you will be struck immediately by the outline of one mountain in particular, namely the vast and craggy Pflersch Tribulaun massif. Although it measures just 3100 m, it dwarfs all its neighbouring mountains.
Walking time: c. 45 minutes
- From Ladurns to Gossensass: from the chair lift mountain station cross the ski piste and join a well-maintained farm track which turns into a forest path after about 15 minutes of walking. Follow this path in a southerly direction to reach the "Holzstube" where the forest path ends. Cross the "Schreyergraben" and follow route no. 34 which reverts to a forest path after 15-minutes walking time. After about one hour you will reach the bottom of the valley and arrive at Gossensass along the river walkway. You can also reach Gossensass from the Edelweiss Hut by first going through the "Holzstube" along the path described above. This path is frequently used as an ascent.
Walking time: c. 2 hours
- From Ladurns to St. Anton in Innerpflersch: Take the farm track mentioned above until it turns into the forest path and you can keep following this down into the valley via "Toffring" and "Allriß". From here you can take the bus to Gossensass.
Walking time: c. 1 ½ hours
- From Ladurns back to the valley: For those who prefer to walk from the chair lift mountain station back to the valley station there are two recommended routes which follow the farm track up until the forest path mentioned above.
Route I: From here either follow the wide ski-run to the "Bichlhöfe" fields and then take route no. 35/A on the right-hand side back to the valley station, or (Route II) take the forest path towards Innerpflersch. This takes you at times along the flat and at times gently downhill to "Toffringtal" valley. When you have reached the lowest point, i.e. before starting the first climb, take a sharp right-hand turn into the "Sogeweg" (well signposted) which will bring you to the "Bichlhöfe" fields where you then follow route no. 35/A back to the valley station.
The first route is the shorter and the second route the less strenuous of the two.
Walking time: Route I: c. 1 hour, Route II: c. 1 ½ hours
- From the Edelweiss Hut to the Wetterspitze (2709 m): to the right of the Edelweiss Hut, route no. 34 climbs gradually towards "Teissljöchl". Going slightly downhill and then along the flat to so-called "Silberböden" you will reach the farthest, most isolated valley of Toffringtal. Here you will often find some snow and the remains of avalanches late into the summer. From here the path climbs rather more steeply along the left-hand side of the valley and then winds its way beneath the steep cliffs of the Wetterspitze (2709 m). Keeping to the left, follow the path as it snakes its way steeply up a narrow gorge leading to a dry valley. From here the route becomes much less steep and the going is relatively easy all the way to the top of the mountain with its large mountain cross.
Walking time: c. 3 hours
For the descent we recommend route no. 27 through Allrißtal Valley. You will reach Allrißalm Pasture and from here follow the forest path and so-called "Sogeweg" back to Ladurns Valley Station. As an alternative, take the route down to St. Anton in Innerpflersch and then the bus back to Ladurns Valley Station.
- From the Edelweiss Hut to the Seeberspitze (2510 m):
The Seeberspitze offers more stunning views. Follow route no. 34 as though going to the Wetterspitze and after one hour of walking take a left turn and make your way across steep terrain to the summit (2510 m).
Walking time: c. 2 ½ hours
- From the Edelweiss Hut via "Toffring" to the valley: to the right of the Edelweiss Hut, follow route no. 34 ascending gradually towards "Teissljöchl" and then follow route no. 35 which climbs a little more steeply at first and then falls away gradually to the little Stausee Lake and Pflersch power station. From here you can either keep to the left and follow the forest path to Innerpflersch or keep to the right along the forest path and then follow the so-called “Sogeweg", which branches off to the left, after 400 m and before a gentle climb, and takes you back to the chair lift valley station.
Walking time: c. 2 hours
- Over Lotterscharte (2239 m) to Vallmingalm on the Roßkopf: to the left of the mountain station a farm track climbs gradually up to the Edelweiss Hut. Just below the Edelweiss Hut a steep, narrow track (no. 34/A) branches off to the left towards Lotterscharte leading to a plateau. Crossing this, the terrain becomes increasingly steep and you will climb up a scree slope to the "Lotterscharte" (2239 m). From here head steeply downhill to the alpine village of Vallming. All the buildings here are preserved in their traditional state. Following route no. 19/A, which sets out from Gossensass, cross a slope covered in leafy shrubs and old larch trees and follow a steeply zigzagging path to "Kastellacke". Go slightly downhill to reach the Sterzing Hut on the Roßkopf. From here you can descend to Sterzing on foot or with the cabin railway.
Walking time: c. 3 hours
- Over Lotterscharte (2239 m) to Telfer Weißen (2588 m): Follow the route to Lotterscharte described above. From here keep right and follow route no. 24 and then route no. 23 to Telfer Weißen (2588 m).
Walking time: c. 1 ½ hours
